The Department of Kidney Dialysis Techniques was established as one of the departments of the College of Health and Medical Techniques at Al Bayan University in the academic year 2023-2024 based on the urgent need to graduate medical technical staff who possess the necessary basic and specialized skills to work in dialysis centers in government and private hospitals and to treat patients with renal failure, using modern dialysis devices.
The Department of Kidney Dialysis Techniques is one of the clinical medical departments concerned with training students on how to perform dialysis through a special device designed to replace the function of kidneys that has lost its ability to perform normal functions. The dialysis process is carried out by using special solutions prepared for the dialysis process, which in turn purify the patient’s blood from harmful wastes that the kidneys can get rid of, as well as removing toxins resulting from various metabolic processes and excreting excess water, dissolved materials and salts from the patient’s blood, due to the failure the patient’s kidneys.
Duration of study at the Department of Kidney Dialysis Technologies
The designated period of study is four academic years, through which the students acquire the basic and specialized theoretical knowledge along with scientific training at the university along with training at the dialysis centers in the hospitals of the Iraqi ministry of health for the purpose of obtaining the necessary skills to work at the specialized dialysis centers of the health care institutes in Iraq. The department awards the students after completing the four years of study a bachelor degree in dialysis techniques, and thus they become qualified to work at the dialysis centers and urology wards of the health institutes of the Iraqi ministry of health.

The Department of Kidney Dialysis Techniques is working on preparing qualified technical staff to work in the field of specialization and to meet the need of the Ministry of Health in dialysis centers, which supports the development of new centers to upgrade the field of specialization.
Department objectives:-
1-the department aims to consolidate students ‘ awareness of the importance of the Department of industrial college technologies and the extreme need for this specialty in the country.
2-emphasis on increasing the student’s scientific awareness of the importance of dialysis and upgrading this specialty to reach better ways to serve the community.
3-introducing the student to the importance of specialization in the labor market and the scarcity of specialized middle staff in this field in health centers and hospitals, which will provide more opportunities for work.
4-urging students to keep up with the scientific and research development in the field of dialysis in order to upgrade to better technical means in the treatment of kidney failure patients.
