The student (Esra Hussein Ali) discussed her master’s thesis at the college of Pharmacy / Mustansiriya University entitled (Evaluation of the effect of metformin against the symptoms of Parkinson’s induced by rotenone in a rat model)

The main objective of the study was to find out the motor and non-motor symptoms with the effect of metformin treatment in the presence and supervision of the dean of the college of Health and Medical Techniques (Prof.Dr.Ghaith Ali Jasim al-Zubaidi).
The results demonstrate that metformin may be a modulating agent for Parkinson’s disease by targeting several disease pathways .
The results of the study found that metformin therapy led to a clear improvement in motor performance and reduced oxidative stress with inhibition of the effectiveness of TLR4 and GSK3β and reduced levels of α-synuclein and DDC, indicating its anti-inflammatory and neuronal protective effect.
The combination of metformin and L-DOPA (basic therapy) had the effect of a greater improvement in both behavior and molecular data.
